The Discipline Specific Training focuses on how to coach the discipline specific skills. Discipline Specific Training courses are 2-days. The training is designed for those working towards a Coach Award and is also suitable as stand-alone training.

The course will help you to plan and deliver safe, enjoyable, progressive coaching sessions and explore specifics to help you coach typical learners on the sea.

This training is available as a two-day practical course.

For qualified coaches, this can form part of your continuous professional development and has a value of 20 CPD points.

This course is part classroom and part on water. The course will be based in the BBB Classroom

The course will run from 8am - 5pm each day.

This course is provided by John Carmody, British Canoeing Advanced Coach Award Provider and Coach Diploma recipient, and Alex LaLonde, British Canoeing Advanced Sea Kayak Coach and Coach Award Tutor Aspirant.

What are the Prerequisites?

• Full National Association Membership;

• Relevant Leadership Award (for candidates wishing to be assessed)

• Core Coach Training (or equivalent)

What preparation do I need to do?

You will need good knowledge of the discipline(s) you wish to coach as this provides the content of WHAT you will be coaching. Your course provider can provide further guidance. Prior to training, craft-based coaches should ensure that their personal skills (and leadership skills) are well practiced. This allows you to focus on developing your ‘coaching’, rather than your ‘paddling’.

To get the most out of your Discipline Specific Training, you need to feel comfortable in or on your craft and be able to independently paddle in Moderate Water conditions. We recommend you consider the Coastal Sea Kayak Award (or equivalent level of experience) before booking on your Training.

We will be offering a Core Coach Training immediately before this course for those who need to complete that requirement.

We will offering a Moderate Water Sea Kayak Leader (4 Star) Assessment opportunity before this course for anyone who needs to complete that requirement*. (Only required for those planning to be assessed). Contact us if you're interested.
